Karachalis Nikolaos-Georgios

Nikolas Karachalis is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Tourism Economics and Management at the University of the Aegean. His research interests focus on city and place tourism strategy, participatory planning, cultural development and policy, festivals and special events, and destination marketing/branding. He holds a PhD from Panteion University on the subject of Tourism and Cultural Strategy of Cities and a Master of Arts in European Urban Cultures (Interdepartmental led by Tilburg University). He has teaching experience since 2009 in the undergraduate and postgraduate program (MSc Urban Planning-Spatial Planning, MSc Planning and Development of Tourism and Culture) of the Department of Engineering. of Spatial Planning, Urban Planning & Regional Development of the University of Thessaly. He also has teaching experience as a member of the SEP at the Hellenic Open University, as a visiting professor in the English-language Hospitality and Tourism Management program of the International University of Greece, in the Geography department of Harokopio University, etc. He has many years of experience in writing research proposals and managing European programs (Innovative Actions, Interreg, ESPON, Culture, URBACT, etc.) with an emphasis on cultural management and tourism strategy. He is a special expert/speaker of the URBACT program since 2013 on culture/arts and local economic development. He has published articles in Greek and foreign scientific journals, volumes, proceedings of scientific conferences, etc. for place marketing, regional development and cultural economy issues.
