Dr. Georgia Papadopoulou is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Tourism Economics and Management of the University of the Aegean and also teaches in the Interdepartmental Study Program "Strategic Management of Tourist Destinations & Hospitality Enterprises" of the same University. She collaborates with the Hellenic Open University in the Tourism Management Program and with the Neapolis University of Paphos in Cyprus in the Tourism Management Master's Program. In the past she has been an Assistant Professor at Al Ghurair University in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and a Lecturer at Dublin City University on secondment at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
She holds a PhD from the Department of Economics of the University of Piraeus on the topic "Investigation of the characteristics that affect the spending of cruise passengers in Greece" for the preparation of which she received a scholarship from the State Scholarship Foundation (IKY). She has also completed her studies in two Master's Degree Programs, in Tourism Business Management from the Hellenic Open University and in Business Operations Management (MBA) from the University of the Aegean. She received her first degree from the Department of Maritime Studies of the University of Piraeus.
She teaches courses on tourism economics, operations management in hospitality enterprises and transport in tourism. In the past she has taught courses on economics (microeconomics and macroeconomics), project management, operations management, project planning and controlling, but project acquisition and contracting etc. Her research interests focus on issues related to financial and management operations in transport and in particular in the cruise sector. She has published articles in peer-reviewed international scientific journals, chapters in books, but is herself a reviewer in international journals and has participated in international conferences presenting her research. She is currently supervising a post-doctoral research related to the financial management of shipping companies and specifically to the case of the cruise industry, a PhD thesis related to diving tourism, as well as graduate and post-graduate theses in tourism.
