Dr. Andreas Papatheodorou is a Professor in Industrial and Spatial Economics with an emphasis on Tourism at the Department of Tourism Economics and Management of the University of the Aegean. He is also the Director of the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Program "Strategic Management of Tourist Destinations and Hospitality Enterprises" as well as the Laboratory of Tourism Transport, Infrastructure and Destination Development of the University of the Aegean. He is an Associate Professor at the School of Aviation at the University of New South Wales, Australia. In addition, it cooperates educationally with the National School of Civil Aviation of France as well as with the University of Applied Sciences of Frankfurt, Germany.
He is a graduate of the Athens University of Economics as well as a graduate of the University of Oxford (Master's in Economics, PhD in Economic Geography) while he started his career as a Tourism Lecturer at the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom where he worked from 2000 to 2005. in the academic year 2015-16 he was the Dean of the College of Hospitality and Tourism at the University of West London in the United Kingdom. Professor Andreas Papatheodorou has written more than 150 scientific papers and presentations mainly on the subject of the economic regulation and deregulation of air transport and their relationship with tourism development, while his work has gathered more than 5500 references internationally (based on Google Scholar). Among others his book Aviation and Tourism has received a very positive response while his book Economics of Tourism has been translated from English to Chinese. He is Editor-in-Chief of the international scientific journal Journal of Air Transport Studies and Associate Editor of Annals of Tourism Research. He has participated in more than thirty (30) international and national research and study programs, having the status of Scientific Director in some of them. He has been a Regular Member of the Research Committee of the Special Account of Research Funds of the University of the Aegean for a number of years.
Professor Dr. Andreas Papatheodorou is President of the Hellenic Aviation Association, Member of the Executive Board of the Civil Aviation Authority and Member of the Panel of Experts of the Barometer of the World Tourism Organization. He speaks three foreign languages (English, French and German) and is a Classical Guitar graduate of the National Conservatory.
