Name: Dr Michael D. Roumeliotis

Profession: Associate Professor in Legal Theory, Contract Law and Business Ethics, at the Department of Business Administration of the University of the Aegean.

Education

1977-1983 High School in “Varvakios School”.

1983-1988 Athens University, Faculty of Law: 1st Law Degree. (British equivalent of qualification obtained: LL.B. Honours).

1988-1993 University of Edinburgh, Faculty of Law, Centre for Criminology and the Social and Philosophical Study of the Law: Ph.D.

Joint supervision by Prof. D.N. MacCormick and Prof. Zenon Bankowski. Funding by the Research Studentship of the University of Edinburgh.

Attendance and participation in numerous international Seminars and Conferences, of which must be mentioned at least my attending the Seminar in Jurisprudence of the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, from January till March of 1989. (Funding by the same Institute).

Thesis: “The Jurisprudence of Ordinary Language: A Study of Epistemology in Legal Theory”. It is a critical analysis and rational reconstruction of the claims that we should attend to ordinary language in order to answer our conceptual questions; these claims were made by that school of jurisprudence that was led by Hart's “The Concept of Law”. The thesis is exceptionally interdisciplinary, drawing from epistemology, the philosophy of language, theoretical linguistics, communication theory and theoretical sociology.
