Laboratory for Tourist Research and Studies

Establishment and Purpose

Establishment

  • The Laboratory for Tourist Research and Studies (ETEM) was established by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 285 (Official Gazette 235/31.10.2000, First Issue).
  • The Laboratory for Tourist Research and Studies belongs to the Department of Business Administration of the University of the Aegean and is located in the town of Chios island.

Purpose

ETEM has the following purposes:

  • Support training and research requirements in the discipline of Tourism taught in the Department of Business Administration of University of the Aegean, as well as in the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Course titled "Tourism Planning, Management and Policy" offered by the same Department.
  • Specialised research in:
    • Management of Tourism and Tourist Enterprises.
    • Tourist Development.
    • Economics of Tourism.
    • Environment and Tourism.
    • Sociology of Tourism.
    • Information Technology in Tourism.

Mission and Objectives

Mission

ETEM's main mission is to cover the teaching and research needs of the Department of Business Administration as well as of the Departments of the University of the Aegean as regards issues included in ETEM's main area of activities, Tourism.

Objectives:

  • Co-operation with Greek domestic and foreign Research Centres and Academic Institutions provided their scientific objectives are similar to those of ETEM.
  • Co-operation with scientists (university professors, researchers, tourism experts etc.) specialized in Tourism and the objectives of their research work are similar to those of ETEM.
  • Organisation of scientific lectures, seminars, workshops, conferences and other scientific events relating to the main scope of ETEM, Tourism.
  • Various publications regarding the objectives and purposes of ETEM.
  • Invitations to Greek and foreign scientists in the framework of ETEM's research and educational activities.
  • Provision of services to private individuals and all kinds bodies and organisations, in the areas covered by ETEM.

Staff and Associates

ΕΤΕΜ Staff

  • Professors and other technical staff of the Department of Business Administration whose discipline is relevant to the teaching and research interests of the Laboratory.
  • Members of the Special Technical and Laboratory Staff (ETEP), as well as members of the other scientific and administrative staff appointed to the Laboratory.

ΕΤΕΜ Associates

  • University professors, teachers and experts specialized in Tourism, with research, professional and teaching interests which are similar to the Laboratory's objectives.
